Abstrakt: Územní struktura výkonu veřejné správy v Česku je odrazem série reforem, z nichž ta poslední proběhla v letech 1997–2003 a do jisté míry nebyla dosud dokončena. Za tímto účelem připravilo Ministerstvo vnitra zákon o územně správním členění státu, který by měl na reformu z přelomu tisíciletí navázat a dokončit ji. Cílem tohoto článku je představit zákon a vysvětlit jeho význam jak pro administrativní systém, tak pro celkovou strukturu státu. Nový zákon řeší několik problémů současného administrativního členění státu, ukotvuje jeho základní jednotky a ruší některé další legislativní předpisy s cílem definovat členění státu přehledně v jediném zákonu.

Abstract (EN): New administrative division of Czechia as we (don’t) know it. The territorial structure of the public administration in Czechia has been formed by series of reforms. The last of them took place in 1997–2003 and has not been fully completed yet. The Ministry of the Interior has prepared a new law concerning the territorial and administrative structure of the state, which should follow up and complete the reform from the turn of the millennium. The aim of this article is to introduce the law and explain its importance both for the administrative organisation and for the overall structure of the state. The new law addresses several problems of the current administrative division of the state, determines its basic units and revokes some other legislative regulations in order to clarify the issue.
