Abstrakt: Naděje dožití při narození v EU - 27 a v USA do roku 1990 víceméně plynule narůstala. Zatímco od roku 1990 v EU - 27 naděje dožití nadále roste, v USA je viditelná stagnace, přičemž výraznější je u žen. Z regionálního pohledu podprůměrné hodnoty vykazu jí státy Východní Evropy a Jihovýchod USA, což souvisí s historickým vývojem, resp. vyšším podílem černošského obyvatelstva v daných státech. Úroveň kojeneck é úmrtnosti je nižší v EU - 27. V roce 2010 dosahoval a 4,0 ‰, zatímco v USA 6,2 ‰.

Abstract (EN): The European Union and the United States of America: Similarities and Differences in Life Expectancy. Up until 1990, life expectancy at birth in the EU-27 and in the U.S. was more or less on the rise. While life expectancy in the EU-27 has continued to increase since 1990, it has become stagnant in the U.S. (especially among US women). From a regional perspective, below-average values are recorded in the countries in Eastern Europe and in the southeastern states of the U.S. This is due, respectively, to historical development or to higher proportions of African- American population in those states. The infant mortality rate in the EU-27 is lower than in the U.S. In 2010, the infant mortality rate was the 4.0 ‰ in EU-27, while in the USA it was 6.2 ‰.
