Abstrakt: Nejmenší zemí Evropské unie je Malta, jen 316 km2 plochy a asi půl milionu obyvatel. Středomořské souostroví má velmi dlouho historii, sahající až do 4. tisíciletí př. n. l., v novověku bylo nejprve územím řádu johanitů a později britskou kolonií. V současnosti se malá země, žijící především z cestovního ruchu, zapojuje do evropské integrace.

Abstract (EN): Malta: The smallest country in the European Union. Malta is the smallest country in the European Union, with an area of only 316 km2 and about half a million inhabitants. This Mediterranean archipelago has a very long history, dating back to the 4th millennium BC. In modern times, the territory first belonged to the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, later it was a British colony. Currently, the small country, living mainly from tourism, is involved in European integration.
