Abstrakt: Článek ve stručnosti shrnuje základní data týkající se rozpadu britského impéria a jeho přeměny na Společenství národů. Text si všímá jak vývoje Společenství samého, tak i různých forem, které se v bývalé koloniální říši vytvořily (zejména tzv. Commonwealth realm) a upozorňuje na rozdíly v postavení různých území vzhledem k britské koruně.

Abstract (EN): Some historical-geographic contexts of the Commonwealth. The article briefly summarizes basic data about the dissolution of the British Empire and its transformation into the Commonwealth of Nations. The text notes both the development of the Commonwealth itself and the various forms that were created in the former colonial empire (especially the so-called Commonwealth realm) and focuses attention to the differences in the status of various territories in relation to the British Crown.
