Abstrakt: Nejčastějšími příčinami smrti v demograficky vyspělých zemích jsou v posledních desetiletích především nemoci oběhové soustavy a novotvary. Stejně je tomu i v České republice, kde jsou zároveň výrazné regionální rozdíly. V článku jsou stručně představeny právě krajské rozdíly v intenzitě úmrtnosti na dvě nejčastější skupiny příčin smrti a základní vývojové tendence pozorovatelné v posledních letech.
Abstract (EN): Most Frequent Causes of Death in Czechia. This article briefly explores the two most frequent causes of death (circulatory diseases and neoplasms) during the last decade, in Czechia. Indicators show general improvement from the mid 1990s; however, significant regional differences remain within Czechia. The reasons behind these differences could be found in the prevailing life style of inhabitants and their socio-economic situation as well as in the development of health care and associated technologies and their availability to the public. Improvements in the field of circulatory diseases correspond with similar developments in Western and Northern Europe several decades ago. This process is connected with the term cardiovascular revolution or epidemiological (health) transition.
