Abstrakt: Zaniklá sídla jsou nedílnou součástí české krajiny, dozvěděli jsme se již v jednom z předcházejících čísel Geografických rozhledů (Kučera 2005). Zajímájí nás nejen pro jejich minulost, ale také pro to, co vypovídají o oblastech, v nichž se vyskytují. Podívejme se nyní podrobněji na to, jakými místy zaniklá sídla vlastně jsou, kde se nacházejí, jak vznikají a proč má smysl je poznávat.
Abstract (EN): Deserted Settlements: Their occurrence, investigation and reconstruction. Deserted settlements are a fundamental part of the Czech landscape. This article initially discusses the meaning of the term deserted settlement. Subsequently it identifies causes of settlement desertion, during the 20th century, and describes the regional distribution of deserted settlements in Czechia. The final section of the article discusses the need for acquiring knowledge concerning the history of such places.
