Abstract (EN): Regional Differences in Automobile Traffic Volume: The Current Situation and Development Trends. The rapid increase in the amount of automobiles and in traffic volume has been apparent in the Czech Republic, over the past twenty years. This paper evaluates current automobile traffic volume and its development since 1995, along monitored road sections in the country. Detailed data from traffic censuses have been used. One key question is which roads and regions show the highest volume of automobile traffic and which regions of the Czech Republic experience the most intensive automobile transport. At present, the hinterlands of large cities, influenced by suburbanization, are exhibiting dramatic increases in automobile traffic. Lower category roadways going through the centers of suburban villages, which are entirely unsuitable for intensive car transport, are frequently overloaded. The analysis confirms that excessive traffic is a significant problem related to the changing settlement system and connected with suburbanization and metropolization processes.
