Abstrakt: Česko patří mezi státy s vyšším zastoupením lesů, které mají význam nejen pro dřevozpracující průmysl, ale i pro své rozmanité mimoprodukční funkce. Budoucnost našich lesů, jejichž plocha v posledních letech mírně roste, závisí na stavu ovzduší, zachování druhové rozmanitosti, dodržování zákonů a respektování ekologických zákonitostí, které existenci lesních ekosystémů podmiňují.
Abstract (EN): How are our forests and where are they headed? The condition of our forests is a result of human influence on the original Central European deciduous forests. Developments in terms of area, tree species composition and the level of tree damage have been undergoing changes and, after a serious crisis during the second half of the 20th century, the situation is improving slightly. The future of our forest ecosystems depends on the acceptance of principles of sustainable management on an ecological basis.
