Abstrakt: Ačkoliv je Evropa druhý populačně nejmenší kontinent (po Austrálii), je z demografického pohledu důležitá. V západní Evropě začala demografická revoluce, vyspělé evropské státy vykazují v průměru jedny z nejvyšších hodnot naděje dožití a nejnižších hodnot kojenecké úmrtnosti a úhrnné plodnosti. Společným působením těchto procesů dochází ve většině evropských států k demografickému stárnutí, jehož důsledky už nyní zasahují a v budoucnu budou stále více promlouvat do ekonomik a sociálních systémů jednotlivých států.
Abstract (EN): Development of the world population: Europe. This article deals with the current demographic situation in Europe and characterizes the position of Europe in relation to the other continents. The main emphasis is focused on a description of differences between Western and Eastern European countries, in terms of basic demographic characteristics and reproductive behaviour. The final section introduces the importance of minority groups in European countries, especially in Germany and France.
