Abstrakt: Článek se zabývá hlavními milníky formování kurdské autonomie v severním Iráku s důrazem na druhou polovinu 20. století a počátek 21. století. Pojednáno je tak období éry Saddáma Husajna charakteristické politikou tzv. arabizace a represí, ale také novější období zformování Kurdské regionální vlády (1992) a formální prosazení autonomie v rámci federálního Iráku po roce 2005.

Abstract (EN): Iraqi Kurdistan: Unfinished Path to Independence. This article describes the primary milestones toward Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq, focusing on the historical process of state formation and development of its semi-independence status, since the 1960s. It stresses the role of changing relations with the central government, international stakeholders, oil prices and the heterogeneity of Iraqi Kurds themselves.
