Abstrakt: Poslední evropská kolonie, Gibraltar, historicky profitoval ze své strategické polohy při jižním cípu Pyrenejského poloostrova. Britské panství nad Gibraltarem je historií dlouhých sporů se sousedním Španělskem, které přetrvávají do současnosti. Liberální daňový systém dnes do Gibraltaru přitahuje nejen finanční sektor a činí z něj důležitou základnu tzv. offshorových firem. Tento statut však může být v blízké budoucnosti ohrožen, otázkou je také pozice Gibraltaru na jedné z hlavních migračních tras do Evropy.

Abstract (EN): Gibraltar: Contested Land in a Strategic Location. Gibraltar, currently a British Overseas Territory, has long benefited from its strategic location near the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. Three centuries of British possession are full of clashes with neighbouring Spain and the tensions continue. The rather liberal taxation system attracts financial institutions. Fiscal advantages have made Gibraltar a leading financial centre. This status, however, may be weakened in the near future due global pressure to restrict “tax heavens”. Gibraltar’s location along a major migration route may soon become challenge too.
